Brencis
The vampire ruler of the valley, whose investiture in thirty days is the clock you are running against.
Brencis rules Vale Sangora as its knyaz. He was born Caeso Burrienus Laurentius in AD 131, which makes him older than the kingdom he governs and older than every vrakhir who serves him except one.
His investiture is the deadline. He has taken Coen's family to be sacrificed at the ceremony, and the ceremony is thirty days away. Everything you do in the valley is measured against that date, whether you spend the month undermining his court or walk straight at him.
Three vassals hold the valley for him: Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe. Weakening them is the sanctioned route to their master, but it is not the only one.

Two years ago, soon after the plague started, Brencis and his three vrakhir henchmen stepped out of the shadows. In just one night they killed the knyaz at the time, Skender Dragosti, and took over Vale Sangora.
When Brencis told us he was going to drink our blood and commanded us to drink his, people were terrified. But soon they got used to it.
Today, Brencis rules the valley from Greifberg Castle in Svartrau. He rarely leaves it, except to attend Blood Mass. He is old, there's no hiding it – but even though his body may seem to be crumbling, he is powerful... and somehow his strength seems only to be growing.
