Glossary

The valley's vocabulary. Several of these are Romanian, Slavic or invented, and the game does not stop to explain them.

The vrakhiri

Dawnwalker
Coen's condition: a bite that did not finish, leaving him human by day and vrakhir by night. Not a faction and not a class. One person.
Vrakhir
A vampire, singular. The plural is vrakhiri, and the game writes both in lower case. Coen's night shape is the vrakhir form.
Sire
The vrakhir who turned you. Coen has one, and swears revenge on them.

The court

Knyaz
The ruler of Vale Sangora. Brencis holds the title; Skender Dragosti held it before him.
Boyar / Boyaress
A noble under the knyaz. Xanthe's title is boyaress; Ambrus is a boyar lieutenant.
Vassal
One of the three who hold the valley for Brencis: Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe.
The Court
The in-game menu that tracks Brencis's regime: each vassal's anger, your Infamy, and the Edicts in force.

Systems

Court Activities
Quests that raise a specific vassal's anger. There are 41 across the three of them.
Segment
The unit the clock moves in. Each day has eight, and each night has eight. Only some actions spend one.
Corruption
Rises as Coen feeds. It unlocks Vampiric Abilities and it carries the risk of losing control.
Infamy
Your standing with Brencis's regime, running the wrong way. As it rises the court answers with Edicts.
Edict
One of nine penalties Brencis issues against Coen as Infamy climbs. They are listed in the Court menu.

Powers

Hex
A Witchcraft spell, cast by carving a rune into Coen's own skin and paid for in health. Daylight only.
Manual
A book that teaches a technique. Swordmastery techniques come from manuals; Witchcraft comes from magic manuals. Reading one costs time.
Ability / Perk
An Ability is active and slotted. A Perk is passive. Both cost Skill Points, earned by levelling.
Omniblock / Omniattack
The game's own terms for guarding and attacking without committing to one of the four directions.

The valley

Vale Sangora
The fictional 14th-century kingdom the game takes place in, set in the Carpathian Mountains. The year is 1347.
Svartrau
The capital, the court's seat, and home to the Cathedral and Silverkreis.
The Manumit
The rebellion against Brencis's regime. Crake is one of its leaders.
Peregrini Aurorae
Coen's long sword. The name means the Dawn's Pilgrim.
Uriashi
Giants, from Carpathian folklore. The valley has a village named after them.
Psoglav
A dog-headed man, also out of the region's own folklore.
