Coen

A silver miner from Laslea, turned half-vampire and left with thirty days to reach his family.

Coen is a silver miner from the village of Laslea, and he is nobody special until the night he is bitten. The bite does not finish its work. He wakes as a Dawnwalker: a man by daylight and a vrakhir after dark, holding both natures and belonging fully to neither.

That split is the whole game. By day he is weaker but welcome, able to walk into a village, talk to people and use Witchcraft. By night he is far stronger, able to scale walls, move in shadow and feed, but the valley treats him as the thing it fears. Almost every problem in Vale Sangora has a day answer and a night answer, and choosing between them is how you spend your time.

He carries a long sword called Peregrini Aurorae, the Dawn's Pilgrim, and he has one month. Knyaz Brencis has taken Coen's family to be sacrificed at his investiture, thirty days out. Coen also owes a debt to his sire, the vrakhir who made him what he is.
