In the hamlet of Zerau, graves began to open at night. People spoke of demons come to devour the dead, for no man would dare such defilement.
The elderman called for a watchman to guard the graveyard, but by dawn the man was gone, never to be seen again. A priest came to perform an exorcism, yet still, by dawn another grave was dug open and the deads's rest was disturbed.
At last, one night, the whole hamlet gathered to stand watch. And they saw it: a massive hound, the size of a horse and black as the pits of Hell. It dug and gnawed at coffins, feasting on rotting flesh and old bones.
Though the villagers outnumbered the beast, no hand dared lift a blade. Too craven to fight for their dead, they fled, hoping to save their lives, but to no avail. And none of their cowardly souls could find rest ever since.
