To His Excellency Heinrich II von Finstingen, the Archbishop-Elector of Trier,
My Lord, as you requested, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the political situation in Vale Sangora. I believe that your decision to keep me posted in Svartrau should finally pay off. As of last week – that is, since the Feast of St. Remigius, Anno Domini 1263 – the Boarescu family no longer rules the valley. Its aging patriarch, Alexandru, was defeated in a duel by one Ovidiu Dragosti. I was not able to witness the fight, but my sources tell me that despite Alexandru’s age it was a close match.
Ovidiu has a reputation for being a cunning and wise man. And one with great ambition in his heart. I know that in the past it was really difficult to establish proper trading and political connections with Vale Sangora. But I spoke to the new knyaz and it seems that he’s open to talk with an appropriate representative of the Church. I am certain that My Lord can find someone that fits that description.
I shall await further instructions.
Your devoted servant,
Dietmar of Bamberg
