Buried Past

I realise that I hardly know my father – even though I've known him my whole life. He hardly ever talks about his past... But it seems like it's catching up with him.

Objectives

  1. 1

    Find Pieter's secret spot

So... Turns out my father had some sort of a secret meeting spot, deep in the woods. Should I go look for it?

  2. 2

    Talk with Volk

I met Volk – my father's friend from long ago. And unlike Pieter, he seems eager to talk about their shared past.

  3. 3

    Visit Volk

I should check on Volk – it's been a while.

  4. 4

Retrace your steps from childhood memories

I know the Secret Glade was somewhere near Parlita... But where exactly?

  5. 5

    Buy slivovitz for Volk

Volk asked me to bring some slivovitz next time I see him. I should be able to get a bottle in one of Svartrau's taverns.

  6. 6

    Follow Volk

Volk says he's got a trick to show me. Let's see if the old fox can teach me something useful.

  7. 7

Look for Pieter's treasure using Focus Mode

Is this where my father hid his half of the treasure? Or maybe Volk made it all up?

  8. 8

Ask about Pieter at the Maragir monastery

My father and a prayerbook? An unlikely pairing. Maybe the monks at the monastery where the book was copied can tell me more.

  9. 9

    Follow the monk

The monk wasn't surprised when I asked him about my father's treasure – and told me to follow him.

  10. 10

    Confront Volk

Volk betrayed me – helped to set up an ambush for me. I should tell him how I feel about it.

  11. 11

    Look for Volk

Something's very wrong. There are dead soldiers outside Volk's hut – and the old man's missing. I'd better look for him.

  12. 12

    Tell Volk about your findings

So my father really did have treasure – and handed it all off to the monks of Maragir. I wonder what Volk will think.

  13. 13

    Visit Volk

I should probably check on Volk – see how he's doing.

  14. 14

    Inspect the prayerbook

My old man never struck me as man of faith. So what's the prayerbook doing in his secret stash?

  15. 15

    Search the stash

Hah! So my father did stash his things away here. But what things, exactly? Let's take a look.

  16. 16

Give Volk a day to rest

Volk seems tired. Let's give him a day to rest.

  17. 17

Give Volk a day to rest

Volk seems tired. Let's give him a day to rest.

  18. 18

    Investigate Pieter's secret spot

What was my father doing here? Maybe I'll find some answers if I look around.

  19. 19

    Follow the big stones

These big rocks – we called them 'Giants's pawns'. By following them, I should find the way to the Secret Glade.

  20. 20

Look around Parlita for something to jog your memory

I need to find something familiar to recall our steps. We'd go to Parlita, get sweet buns for the road...

  21. 21

    Go to the Secret Glade

If my father really did have treasure, I think he'd have hidden it in our Secret Glade. Let's go there – and take a look.

  22. 22

    Investigate Pieter's secret spot

What was my father doing here? Maybe I'll find some answers if I look around.

Who's this old man? And how does he know my father? I need to talk to him.

  24. 24

Give Volk a day to rest

Volk seems tired. Let's give him a day to rest.

  25. 25

    Visit Volk

Might be a good idea to check up on Volk.

  26. 26

    Look around for a shovel

Hard to dig for treasure without a shovel... Maybe there's one somewhere around here.

  27. 27

    Dig at the marked spot

Let's see if there really is treasure here.

  28. 28

    Defeat Volk

Volk betrayed me, sold me out to Brencis's men. He doesn't deserve to live.

  29. 29

    Spar with Volk

Let's cross our blades – and see if Volk is still worth his salt.

  30. 30

    Defeat the stranger

Who's this man? Why's he so aggressive? I need to fend him off!

  31. 31

(Optional) Chop some wood for Volk

Volk said he'd appreciate if I chopped some wood for him. Why not?

  32. 32

(Optional) Track down the wolves bothering Volk using Focus Mode

Volk says he's bothered by a pack of wolves. They must have a den nearby. Let's check for tracks behind the house.

  33. 33

(Optional) Gather feverfew by the riverbank

Volk is suffering from back pain – and I offered to help. To do so, I need to start by collecting some herbs by the riverbank.

  34. 34

(Optional) Tell Volk about the wolves

I got rid of the wolves that were bothering Volk – the old man should be pleased.

  35. 35

(Optional) Prepare the ointment for Volk

I need to make an ointment for Volk. I should find all I need by his stove.

  36. 36

(Optional) Bring the wood back to Volk

I should bring the wood back to Volk's hut.

  37. 37

(Optional) Take firewood from the shed

The nights are getting colder – let's make sure the old man has enough firewood to keep warm.

  38. 38

(Optional) Bring the wood back to Volk

I should bring the wood back to Volk's hut.

  39. 39

    (Optional) Search for Volk's knife

Volk lost his precious knife – he waved it around in the dark and it slipped out of his hand. Maybe it landed in some bushes? Or on his hovel's rooftop? Let's see if I can find it.

  40. 40

(Optional) Return the knife to Volk

Found it! Volk should be glad.

  41. 41

(Optional) Board up the bedroom window

Volk asked me to board up the window because it gets cold at night. Shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

  42. 42

    Defeat the soldiers

I've been betrayed – and now need to fight for my life.

The journal's own order. It is the order the game hands them to you, which is not always the order you can do them in.

How it can end · 7

The journal records 7 ways this quest can finish. Each one is written after the fact, so each one gives away what you did.

What you get

XP in 9 awards: 150, 75, 150, 75, 75, 75, 75, 250, 75. 1 Skill Point.

The game pays these out separately. Some quests award them one after another, and some award one instead of another, so they are shown as the game stores them rather than added together.

What you read along the way

The game files these under this quest's own code. Where that code covers several journal entries, a document listed here may belong to one of the others in the thread below.
