On moonlit nights, when the clouds part like a curtain, you might catch a glimpse of a white mare and her lady rider galloping through the woods. Untouched by the passing of time, eternal.
A long, long time ago, the mare was the beloved steed of a cruel lord’s wife. In her dark eyes, the lady found gentleness the world had denied her. One night, she barely managed to flee her husband's murderous hand. She dodged the blow and ran, ran away screaming for help. Her cries rang across the field bathed in moonlight, and the mare, white as snow, came tearing through the night to her.
But the lord refused to let them escape. He aimed his crossbow, and a bolt pierced the mare’s heart. The steed should've dropped on the spot, but she did not falter. With blood soaking her white coat, she carried her lady far beyond the lord’s reach, denying death itself until the woman was safe. Only then did the brave horse collapse and agree to meet her end.
The lady lived the rest of her days in peace, but she never forgot the truest friend she'd ever had. When she died, the moon shone brighter than ever, and as she opened her eyes, the ghost of the mare stood above her, waiting to finally roam together once more.
The two have been riding together ever since. They find women and girls trapped in cruel hands, and call on them to run into the night, where the lady offers them a hand. If they accept, they vanish together into the moonlight, leaving behind nothing but the echo of hoofbeats fading into dawn.
