When famine grips the land, strange plants begin to sprout up under the cover of night.
They twist out of the ground in tangled knots of fleshy vines, bearing fruit swollen with a dark liquid. To the well-fed, the plants reek like rotting meat left out in the sun.
But to those on the brink of starvation, the fruit appears juicy and succulent, almost divine in its promise. But once you bite into it, you're doomed. The poison rips through you, the relief from hunger turns into agony, and vines erupt from your body and enfold it like a strangler fig.
