When St. Tyna’s name is mentioned nowadays, we all see one of the patron saints of Vale Sangora; we think of acts of charity and of the miracles she performed; we think of the convent built in her name, and the pious nuns toiling inside its walls night and day, doing God’s true work.
But Saint Tyna’s beginnings were much more humble. Born to a lowly peasant family, no one could have known that she would be a saint in the future. In fact, if the legends are to be believed, in her youth she was an unruly child, disobedient to her parents’ and elders’ wishes.
However, one day she discovered she had a gift. When her childhood friend was attacked by a ferocious wolf, Tyna was not only able to fend off the animal simply using her voice, but also cured the wounds on her friend’s body by laying her hands on them.
It was that moment when a seemingly ordinary girl took her first steps on the path to sainthood. She knew that her gifts were not to be squandered – it was God’s wish for her to go forth and do great works. She quickly became known in the valley as a protector of the meek, of those unable to defend themselves. Wherever she appeared, she brought healing and growth.
Soon before her death, she bade her followers erect a convent in her name. Her wish was for girls and women who strayed from the righteous path to have a place in which they could find their way back to the bosom of the Lord. Thus she truly proved that there is always hope for redemption – nay, hope for becoming great.
