Dear Brother in Faith,
I hope this letter finds you well. My congregation in Laslea is doing well, thank you, although we are troubled by reports of the plague spreading beyond the mountains. May it never reach our valley, so help us God.
How is your work on chronicles of the valley? I am looking forward to the day I can read them. I am certain this volume shall be the enjoyment of many.
You asked me if I know anything about the Saxon Revolt of AD 1324. Sadly, there isn’t much I can offer. There is a woman in my congregation, one Esme, who witnessed these events as a child, but these days she no longer speaks, so I’m afraid you will not be able to ask her any questions.
What I know of her story – what she told me in the confessional in her better days – would surely challenge your faith. I know it did mine. First, I couldn’t pray at all. And then, I begged the Lord for the coming of the Day of Judgement, so that this cruel world and all of us who inhabit it would be finally put out of our misery. So maybe it’s for the better that her account shall never be put in writing.
Adalbert
