History of Vale Sangora: Part Three

A sweeping account of the valley's recent past.

As history teaches us, no rule can last forever. The Boarescu family finally lost their hold over Vale Sangora when Ovidiu Dragosti defeated their forces in the Battle of Maragir in AD 1263. Using his new position and political clout, he made sure that his cousin, Vincentiu, became the residing bishop.

Ovidiu’s rule wasn’t long – he lost his life in AD 1271 while travelling through the mountains, crushed by an avalanche. His younger brother and successor, Stelian Dragosti, proved himself to be a wise ruler, strict but fair. The people of Vale Sangora enjoyed many decades of stability and economic prosperity.

When Stelian died during a hunting incident in AD 1324, his subjects hoped that the new knyaz, Skender Dragosti, would prove his father’s equal. Unfortunately, their hopes would be dashed in just a few years – Skender turned out to be a ruthless sovereign. Such was his grip on the people that in AD 1333, a peasant uprising against Skender’s rule broke out. Soon, however, it was quelled at Shrike’s Crag. Every rebel was executed.

Such a ruthless act demanded Divine punishment. And indeed it came – in AD 1347, it was delivered by our beloved Knyaz Brencis, when he righteously executed Skender and brought prosperity back to Vale Sangora. May His reign last forever.
