I asked Marcus one day what his secret was. Was he truly able to know what his opponents were about to do, even though their own thoughts were just forming? He smiled and said to me: ‘Nothing like that. It’s simple, really. Most fighters look at weapons or at the hands that hold them. I look further. I see how my opponent is standing, how he moves his feet. I see how he ever so slightly bends his hips. Finally, I look them in the eyes – and in most cases even if they were able to teach their bodies to tell a different tale, their eyes never lie. If you know that and are nimble by nature, you may sidestep any attack… and then answer with your own. In many cases it will also be the one that ends the fight’.
