Attaining such a level of mastery is not easy, of course. That is why you must focus on every move you are taught and repeat them over and over again, ad nauseam. Even when they seem mundane, boring – you cannot let your focus dwindle. Performing them must become second nature.
Because once you can make those movements instinctively, you will be able to connect them, turn them into a sequence. You will start making patterns of your own. Enjoy them, like a child discovering new ways of playing with its old toys. It will not come easy, but trust me – there is no better feeling in the world than the sudden realisation that the sword is yours to do as you will.
