Toads: witches often pick them as their familiars. If you see one near your door – kill it at once. It might bring bad luck or illness.
Dogs: some dogs can’t sleep at night, bothered by ghosts or demons. If you hear one howling after nightfall, don’t look at it, lest you too become bothered.
Owls: only look into an owl’s eyes if you’ve a deathwish.
Hares: should you spot a hare after dusk, never cross paths with it. You might anger a witch in disguise and bring misfortune upon yourself.
Roosters: if you can, keep a rooster nearby. Their crowing drives spirits away and makes witches’ ears bleed.
